Iíve just watched Jamie on Channel 4ís Food website, great site with lots of cool stuff and great recipes. http://www.channel4.com/food/ This ďJamie In AmericaĒ trip he doing is going to be a tough one, as the challenge heís set himself is like climbing Everest (itís on the same lines as Jamieís School Dinners, you remember the Turkey Twizzlers). I really feel for what heís trying to do, and I can see heís getting so frustrated by the whole approach the Americans take to food, and what they consider to be good, wholesome and pure. For example, within the school dinner guidelines itís approved that you can take a potato, chop it into little skinny long things, fry it and call it 1 of your 5 a day. This, in England is not allowed, not even if you steam it. So in other words, the American School system allows young children to eat chips/French fries all day long, as itís considered to be a healthy veg option???
I just think this is the tip of the iceberg, having lived in America for almost 10 years I can tell you this is part of the reason for so many people being overweight, and carry the obesity label. I wish Jamie all the best, and I really do hope the American public gets what heís doing, and backs him like we did here in the UK.
